Scrolling through my Facebook memories I saw that one of my “Followers” — I hate that term — had copied and pasted and shared something I typed in the comment section many—I think 8—years ago.
Saw this in the comments by Allen Bagby, under one of his status updates. I wanted to repeat them here because he words it so well, but this is a concept I had been tossing around in my mind for a while now. That this whole business of "Truth is relative - there are no absolutes" can seep out into all aspects of life. And that maybe that was why these people just cannot see the reality of the folly in the things they are pushing for. I was glad to see I was not the only one who saw that. And I want to add onto it that I have no idea how to reach any of these people for Christ. When you believe that reality bends to your "good intentions" to the point of bankruptcy, and still won't see reality, how can we possibly convince them about God, until the day they stand before Him?
I’ve corrected the spelling errors I am prone to make when typing on my phone.
It's deeper than facts. It's a way of thinking that imprisons the mind in a false sense of enlightenment. It goes way back to philosophers such as Rousseau, who believed one could create one’s own reality—relativism, the truth to you is not the truth to me. These ideas have saturated our culture over the years via ‘feel good’ motivational speakers, universities (these "open-minded" Liberals would spit venom at me calling me anti-education), film, music, etc. And, on the whole, and in general, many of us have unwittingly been a part of it.
You and I [conservatives, liberty-loving people] started questioning these things. Dances With Wolves depicts our nation and our military as hating native Americans. 95% of movies about war depict our military as savages. Every cause in Hollywood is a Liberal one. The papers are biased. The news is biased. Truth is a fiction. Joe [the man I was responding to] and others, many others, have fully consumed this and embraced it—I would argue embraced it unwittingly in many cases.
He's been patted on the back and told via these entities above how morally superior he is and he assumes ignorantly that when we question the status quo of holy ones, such as Obama and Hillary Clinton then it must be because deep down we never learned from Alex Haley's ROOTS or Gloria Steinem’s burning bra. It's a totally different worldview. As different as a Calvinist and free will theology. Chains do not always a prison make.
Folk like Joe, and the media, have chained themselves while claiming to be far more open-minded than you or I because they've been taught via Oprah or ABC to believe we are racists and bigots, debate over.
There's a whole generation raised up and seduced by the worldview that you possess, Joe—it's the continuation of the same seed/spirit that made "flower power" bloom in the ‘60s. There are many other manifestations of that spirit nicely dressed up. The young, 18-30, are walking around with a philosophical hook-hole in their head, absent free will, and no allegiance to Truth or reality, they are ready for the hook that drags them to Utopia by such phrases as "Hope and Change". Ironically, I never expect an old hardcore Liberal to change—much less change to a "Conservative"—conservative, a misnomer if there ever was one because it’s a philosophy that embraces relevant or positive change; a philosophy that founded this nation, a philosophy that truly is cutting edge.
Naturally, we would be a threat to the conformist and collectivist, such as you. So, Liberals project onto us their fears and label us with various tags, calling us racists when ironically Liberals support racial quotas. It is your ideology that says, "Black people in this line, Asian people in this line." I say no lines. But our ways are mocked in the ‘accepted’ public arena by Jon Stewart and the like. If the young of the USA could see your worldview unvarnished on a regular basis we could put our nation back on the road to liberty instead of the road to serfdom."
For quite some time I had observed back then that most points of view “liberals” hold are revered by movie stars, musicians, professors, and left-wing ideologies. “Liberals” get affirmed consistently by powerfully influential people they admire whereas “conservatives” do not. “Liberals” assume these affirmed views are innocent, innocuous, and correct so they slip in under the radar, into the deep because the “liberal” has mistaken guarding the soul and discernment as judgementalism. Liberty lovers have had to work, and search by inclination, disposition, or —as they say— a “conservative” is a “liberal” mugged by reality, so we see reality. We search for truth because we want an accurate representation of reality. Thus our eyes are open under the stormy sea of moving emotions and we know we’re not in Kansas anymore. We not only see the tip of the iceberg, we see what’s under the surface.
