Revival or Ruin?
What an irony! This was once a great nation because a significant portion of the nation believed: Romans 3:10-12 (NKJV) There is none righteous, no, not one; There is none who understands; There is none who seeks after God. They have all turned aside; They have together become unprofitable; There is none who does good, no, not one
.
Acknowledging that you are a flawed and corruptible person that can only do ultimate good by the grace of God and thereby walking in the Spirit increases the odds of a more ethical society. Nowadays we have it the other way around. Most people think they are good and believe most others are good at heart.
We used to know how to suffer life's trials with dignity. As a society, we used to know we needed salvation and then embrace the process of sanctification. Now we assert that finding ourselves is salvation and we think we are good if we are pleased.
This nation is unique. By far it was the freest of all nations. It was made by people who knew they were flawed. That's one of the reasons they divided the powers of government. They decentralized it. Spreading the influence over separate branches. Keeping the power away from one, or the few.
Perhaps, because of the beginnings, we won't decay and fall into ruin any further. If we acknowledge our inspiring, yet imperfect beginning maybe we can halt this collapse and find our way out of this Sodom and Gomorrah that is now our nation.
We don't have to turn back the clock. The seeds of those ideas and truths that made this nation great are present at this moment. Like the fruit of a vine ready to be plucked for nourishment. They've been mothballed but they are accessible. Those stored seeds do not grow old, they don't have their subsistence in time. They are only doubted and ridiculed because of our blind presentism.
But things have gone too far. Our culture is infested with evil we invited. It now grows like thorns and poison ivy, a fungus that's toxic to breathe. It's dressed in drag, with rainbow colors, so "pretty" and vile. So much invested in this crop of overgrown horror.
We the few march toward battle acknowledging our flawed nature and confronting a narcissistic society in love with itself, striving to be pleased.
I wonder if we have the spiritual resolve to remove the weeds we watered and fertilized. It will be painful. But, as I said, this nation is unique. If there is a nation that can revive itself, it is this nation, as we did with the Civil War. What we must do is of that magnitude. Do we have the guts? If not what we face in the coming years is worse than dealing with it now. It's revival or ruin.
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11
