Trendy Predictable Hipsters

And their trendy predictable bumper stickers

The most predictable people are often those who desperately try to be different from everyone else. They mistake being different for being original.

A while back, I observed a group of hipsters gathering at a coffee shop. I was sitting there sipping on a cup of Joe. They carried their instruments and wore Vans shoes and black t-shirts with ironic statements. I’m guessing that the lack of testosterone made it impossible for any of them to tip the scales at more than 140 lbs, including the thrift store clothing, tight black pants, and jackets. One guy had a short hairstyle that resembled a sixties supermodel, making his head the shape of a light bulb. But most of their hairstyles seemed oblivious to the concept of grooming.

Maybe the whole idea of the hipster outfit and hairstyle is to show solidarity with the homeless while paying $9.95 for a latte. It’s too mainstream to spend that much at Starbucks.

I had been spending some time in the downtown area when I noticed a couple of retro-looking SUVs. One of them had a bumper sticker of Che Guevara, while the other had a Darwin bumper sticker with the fish symbol that had evolved legs, mocking the Christian symbol. I couldn't help but sarcastically think how avant-garde it was. These SUVs had a collection of predictable leftist bumper stickers, which were not original. It's easy to contain a leftist slogan on a bumper sticker because the ideology is so simplistic.

After getting bored with the developing scene, I packed up my laptop and stepped out. As I looked around, I realized that the two SUVs parked outside were the ones I had seen earlier in the downtown area. I noticed the hipsters struggled to carry pieces of a disassembled drum set into the coffee shop. I also observed that they had Che Guevara and Darwin stickers on their vehicles.

I thought…

Trendy. Predictable. Hipsters.
